Ann (200 RYT, Ph.D.) is founder of Relay Active and Runners Love Yoga. Ann has her Ph.D. in English from UVa, is an Olympic Trials Marathoner, and loves teaching creative vinyasa and yin style classes. She has taught yoga since 2009 and got her start leading her teammates at Notre Dame in pre-run stretching! In addition to running and yoga, Ann also comes from a competitive swimming background and swims almost every day. She lives with her husband Phillip and 5 beloved cats, Boo Boo, Butters, Little Nuggie, Koozie, and Gio! You can also take class with her at runnersloveyoga.tv!

Take class with Ann on Tues. 6-6:50pm & Thurs. 7-7:50pm. She also teaches all kitten yoga classes plus specialty classes like Thursday Night Theme Yoga 6-6:50pm!

Celia (200 RYT, MBA) has been practicing yoga since 1999.  After 25+ years of practicing, she felt a strong pull towards a career change in which she experienced true joy and passion while contributing to the community. After completing her training at Hot Yoga Charlottesville,  she is honored to share this ancient and sacred practice. Celia is most excited about sharing modalities for creating inner peace and calm while building strength and mobility. 

Born in NJ, raised in CT, Cville has been her home for 13 years. When she's not on her mat, she's nurturing three young humans and a cat, bike riding, and traveling. She will spontaneously break into dance whenever she hears Taylor Swift!

Diane (200 hr RYT) has been practicing yoga since 2011 and recently answered the call to share the practice with others through teaching. She was drawn to yoga initially as a means to cope with anxiety and stress, and now continues to value the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits. Diane’s classes are suited for all levels. You can expect a gentle vinyasa flow, with focus on connecting movement and breath. She encourages you to show up on the mat as you are, and know that is enough. Off the mat, Diane enjoys snuggles with her dog Jinx, reading, running, indie music, and quality time laughing over good food and drink with loved ones.

Sarah (RYT 500, Ph.D.) has been teaching yoga across Charlottesville since 2016, including at UVA, Common Ground, and Hot Yoga Charlottesville. She runs the yoga program at the nearby Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women where she led a certified yoga teacher training program in 2019, the first of its kind in the state for people who are incarcerated. For Sarah, the goal of yoga is to bring together the breath, the body, and the mind as a way of  feeling interconnected with ourselves, our communities, and our environments. In addition to yoga, Sarah loves baking, reading, traveling, and long walks with her dog Coda.

Sara has been teaching yoga in Charlottesville since 2009 and has trained extensively in a variety of yoga methods. For Sara, teaching pre- and postnatal yoga is where all her passions come together. A licensed midwife and doula with over 350 births attended, she has supported growing families both on and off the mat for a decade and a half. As the Founder and Executive Director of the Virginia Prison Birth Project, Sara is deeply committed to supporting
justice-impacted families and teaches perinatal yoga in carceral settings as well as in the community. She is excited to bring her unique experience and supportive approach to the mat at Relay Active.

Getting to Yoga

Our studio is located at the Dairy Market at 946 Grady Ave., Charlottesville, VA 22903. We have FREE parking in the huge Dairy Market right next door!

We are in the main food hall level of the Dairy Market. After parking in the main Dairy Market lot, walk up the steps past Starr Hill Brewery or up the ramp along Preston and you will easily find us! We have an entrance directly into the studio in addition to our foodhall retail entrance.

We supply all yoga attendees with all the mats and props that they need, though you are welcome to bring your own mat!

We also have a variety of yoga mats and props for sale in our activewear shop.

Luckily for you, we can help with that! If you are attending a yoga class, feel free to shop for anything you need before or after class too, even if outside of our usual retail hours.

Class Descriptions

Vinyasa means movement flowing with the breath: expect to be guided through a creatively flowing series of yoga poses to build strength, balance, and your mind-body connection. A more active practice to rejuvenate and invigorate your body, increase mobility and energy.

Yin yoga is a style of yoga characterized by longer holds of poses, nearly all of which are done from a seated or reclining position. These longer holds, usually of anywhere from a minute to 10+ minutes, work to release bound up places in your fascia, or connective tissue that runs throughout the body.

In contrast to most styles of yoga, which energetically work to strengthen your muscles, the goal of yin yoga is to release and reinvigorate those areas of the body, especially throughout the legs and hips, which have accumulated tension and tightness. Yin yoga complements the more active aspects of our lives by encouraging us to slow down, be still, and relax exactly how we are.

Yin yoga increases not just overall mobility, but flexibility throughout your entire body—whether your goal is to be more agile in your daily tasks, or to be a more successful athlete.

Kitten Yoga

In keeping with our passion for animal rescue, we are proud to bring you Kitten Yoga! Kitten Yoga is an all levels slower paced vinyasa class featuring a litter of adoptable kittens from a local animal shelter! Come for the yoga; maybe leave with a new furever friend! A portion of the proceeds from every kitten yoga class goes right back to that animal shelter too!
